Con un análisis de sangre podemos calcular el valor de la LIPOPROTEINA-A, a partir de ahora Lp(a).
¿Qué es la Lp(a)?
La Lp(a) es un factor de riesgo independiente para las enfermedades cardiovasculares. El nivel de Lp(a) que se encuentra en la sangre de una persona está determinado genéticamente y se mantiene relativamente constante durante toda la vida del individuo. Esto significa que a diferencia de otros factores de riesgo cardíacos, la Lp(a) no se puede modificar por la dieta o el ejercicio. Su nivel de Lp(a) es el mismo a los 5 años que a los 45 años. Una concentración elevada de Lp(a) contribuye al riesgo cardíaco global, por lo que se la considera un buen marcador de riesgo cardíaco.
La Lp(a) es una proteína que transporta el colesterol en la sangre. Contiene una lipoproteína de baja densidad o LDL y una molécula proteica de apolipoproteína A. Al igual que el LDL-colesterol, la Lp(a) puede bloquear las arterias, por lo que un aumento de la Lp(a) aumenta el tamaño de la placa y la coagulación, con el consiguiente riesgo de aumentar las posibilidad de tener un infarto de miocardio o un ictus.
¿Cómo actua la Lp(a)?
La Lp(a) tiene actua por dos mecanismos:

¿Qué nivel de Lp(a) se considera alto?
